Can engineered wood flooring be used with underfloor heating or cooling systems?
Engineered wood floors can be used with the system heating and underfloor cooling. The multi-layer structure helps the board withstand temperature and humidity changes. The heating system also helps keep the wooden surface warmer when walking barefoot.
Compare the requirements below with regulations at the construction site because conditions may vary.
Types of underfloor heating systems
All Quick-Step Parquet Floors price list is compatible with low temperature underfloor heating (What to know about embedded or submerged installations). This means that the maximum permissible contact temperature (= floor-to-foot contact surface) is 27°C. In many cases, this maximum temperature is more than sufficient. Be sure to notify your installer. They can easily adjust your underfloor heating system accordingly.
Your Quick-Step Desk can be installed on:
- Hot water system:
- Wet systems (= combined in a screed)
- Dry system (= installed on dry base floor)
- Electrical system:
- Wet systems (= combined in a screed)
- Dry system (= installed on dry base floor)
Underfloor heating systems must be installed in accordance with the supplier's instructions and generally accepted rules and regulations.
Wooden floor with underfloor heating: Please remember:
When combining wooden floors with underlay floors, it is necessary to ensure that the total thermal resistance does not exceed 0.15 m² K/W. The higher the heat resistance, the longer it takes for the floor to heat up and the less effective the underfloor heating is. Given the high heat tolerance of wooden floors, adhesive installation or floating installation combined with a Silent Walk underlayment can only be maintained below this maximum value. The heat resistance of Quick-Step floors can be found in the specific instructions for underfloor heating.
It is also important to have a layer of insulation underneath the heating floor, which provides better insulation than a wooden floor. This allows the heat from the insulation to be reflected and transmitted through the floor.
Wooden floor and floor cooling
Underfloor cooling is based on the same principle as underfloor heating, but uses cold water instead of hot water. When underfloor cooling, it is important to have an advanced safety and control system to prevent internal condensation when underfloor cooling is used. This prevents water damage to the floor. Such "condensation monitoring" has been installed as standard in many systems. We recommend that you check with your installer to ensure safety.
For underfloor cooling systems, the recommended thermal resistance is no more than 0.15 m² K/W. Because engineered wood flooring has a fairly high temperature resistance, in order not to exceed this threshold, it should only be glued or mounted in combination with Silent Walk underlayment.
Install a wooden floor with floor heating
Quick parquet floors can be installed in two ways: Khai Khai or 'bayGlued floors conduct heat a little better. If you choose a floating rig, we recommend using our equipment. Silent Walk Underlayment If you can't find a companion, find someone who can help you. general installation instructions still applies, unless our specific instructions for underfloor heating specify otherwise. You should always contact your trader if you are unsure.
