Can engineered wood flooring be installed on old flooring?
Yes. First, determine the existing covering and how to install the new floor. Each option has its own ground preparation requirements.
If applying the floor directly to the floor, remove all old floor covering.
If surface mounted, remove moisture-wicking coverings such as carpet or needle felt. Moisture barrier coatings such as vinyl without foam backing or linoleum can be kept. Always use a primer. Quick-Step recommends choosing the brand's underlayment.
If the old floor is wood, remove any coverings on the floor and check for signs of mold or insects. Flatten the floor and nail the loose part in place. If the plank floor is on the ground floor, spread plastic film first and then cover with leveling material.
because prepares the perfect subfloor, we recommend lying down. Download Quick Step Underlay on top to even out the gaps between the panels. Install the new floor perpendicular to the existing floor slabs. The space under the floor must be sufficiently airy: clear away obstructions and ensure that the total ventilation hole area is at least 4 cm² for each m² of floor. The moisture content of wood should not exceed 10%.
