How to fix squeaky engineered wood floors

Wood panels expand and contract with temperature and humidity, so creaking sounds may be more noticeable during certain times of the year.

The squeaking and squeaking sounds of wooden floors can reduce your satisfaction. But don't worry, there may be an easy fix. Here's how to fix squeaky wooden floors.

Check humidity

According to Quick-Step, moisture is involved in 90% of squeaky floors. When the air is too dry, the wood can crack and make noise due to friction when someone steps on it.

Use a hygrometer or humidity measuring device to check. The relative humidity (RH) in the room should be between 30–85%.

If the relative humidity in your room is below 30 %, place the humidifier in the area where the floor makes squeaks. If the humidity is above 85%, place a dehumidifier there to reduce indoor humidity. Don't expect the creaking sound to go away as soon as the humidity returns to normal. Give your floor a few days to return to its normal state again.
