Can laminate flooring be used with underfloor heating or cooling systems?
Laminate flooring can be combined with underfloor heating or cooling systems. Check the temperature, thermal resistance and lining requirements of each system before installation.
Compare the requirements below with regulations at the construction site because conditions may vary.
Types of underfloor heating systems
All Quick laminate table, except the Quick-Step thermolevel set, can be combined with underfloor heating or cooling at low temperature. This means that the maximum permissible contact temperature (= floor-to-foot contact surface) is 27°C. This maximum temperature is more than enough. Be sure to notify your installer. They can easily adjust your underfloor heating system accordingly.
Your Quick-Step Desk can be installed on:
- Hot water system:
- Wet systems (= combined in a screed)
- Dry system (= installed on dry base floor)
- Electrical system:
- Wet systems (= combined in a screed)
- Dry system (= installed on dry base floor)
Underfloor heating systems must be installed in accordance with the supplier's instructions and generally accepted rules and regulations.
Floors with underfloor heating: Remember:
- Please ensure that the total is heat resistant does not exceed 0.15 m² K/W. The higher the thermal resistance, the longer it takes for the floor to warm and the less effective the heating system is. Quick-Step laminate flooring achieves this level when used with Quick-Step underlayments, except Thermolevel. Silent Walk is best suited for underfloor cooling systems because it has the lowest thermal resistance.
- It is also important to have a layer of insulation underneath the underfloor heating, which insulates better than laminate, allowing the heat from the acoustic layer to reflect and transmit through the floor.
Laminate flooring and underfloor cooling
Underfloor cooling operates on the same principle as underfloor heating, but uses cold water instead of hot water. That's why an advanced control and safety system is used to prevent internal condensation when using floor cooling. This prevents water damage to your floors. Such "condensation monitoring" has been installed as standard in many systems. We recommend that you check with your installer to ensure safety.
- For underfloor cooling systems, the recommended thermal resistance is no more than 0.15 m² K/W. Quick-Step laminate flooring achieves this level when combined with Quick-Step underlayments, except Thermolevel. Silent Walk is most suitable because it has the lowest thermal resistance.
Install laminate flooring with underfloor heating
When installing laminate flooring with or without underfloor heating, it is necessary to ensure that the laminate floor always floats. For best results, we recommend combining Quick-Step laminate with a home heat protection system. Silent Walk underlay (roughly translated: Silent walk). Piece general installation instructions still applies, unless our specific instructions for underfloor heating specify otherwise. You should always contact your trader if you are unsure.
