How much flooring do I need to buy for one room?
When installing a new program floor, there are a few things to keep in mind before placing an order with your local store. A very important part of the installation process is measuring the floor surface and making calculations how many square meters flooring you really need to buy.
What should be measured?
Every room is different. Shape, wall and number of doors, corners and angles can vary greatly. The more corners, the harder it is to calculate how many floors will be used.
Calculate room area
Measure the length and width of the room and choose the flooring direction. Usually, tile in the direction of the main light, for example from the largest window. On the page of the selected floor code, use the tool to calculate the number of boxes to buy.
Leave expansion joints
Leave a gap of 8–10 mm at the base of walls, thresholds, stairs, pipes and other adjacent locations. The joint allows the board to expand and contract with temperature and humidity, helping to limit joint leaks and squeaks.
Calculate additional loss when cutting
Charge an additional 5% for rooms with simple shapes. For rooms with multiple corners, bends or complex cuts, Quick-Step recommends a 10% allowance.
